STUDY MBBS IN YEREVAN STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY
The medical faculty of Yerevan State University was founded in 1920, gave first graduates in
1927. In 1930 the medical faculty was reorganized as an independent Yerevan State Medical
Institute. In 1980 it received the highest award for training highly qualified specialists
and for its great contribution in the field of public health. In 1995 the Institute was
reformed into the University and renamed as Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar
Heratsi. Mkhitar Heratsi – Armenian the Great Master of Medicine played the same role for us
as Hippocrates for Greeks, Galen for Romans, Ibn Sina for Arabs.
YSMU is a Government University functioning under the Ministry of Science and Education as a
state non-commercial organization. The structure of the University is that of a traditional
European University. The governing bodies of the University are the University Council, the
Rector, the Senate and the Student Council. The highest body of the University governing is
the Board comprised of 32 members. The highest administrative organ is the University
Council, which convenes at least twice a year. The Council makes decisions about the main
activities of the University. The Rectorate of the University controls the way the decisions
are realized during the intervals between the University Council sessions. The hospitals,
clinics and centers are involved in the University Council of Clinics. The Rector of YSMU
carries out the direct control of the University Council, the Rectorate and the Board of
Clinics. Administration and the faculty function collaboratively in accordance with the
University’s regulations and laws. The overwhelming majority of University’s leadership
comprises of highly qualified physicians and health care professionals having an excellent
and lifelong experience as well as expertise in the relevant field of study. The faculty
staff and the University employees jointly collaborate for the common goals to be achieved
at best.

Undergraduate and Graduate Education
Currently there are 1459 International Students from 28 countries studying in undergraduate medical courses. 900 Indian students are at advantage to pursue their graduate and post-graduate studies here in YSMU. There are 5 Faculties and 102 Academic Departments conducting wide spectrum of both theoretical and clinical studies. Teaching is conducted in Armenian and English.
